Kullu
This is popularly known as the "Valley of God" a delightful region in the western Himalayas. Kullu was once known as Kulanthpitha, which means the end of the habitable world. The town of Kullu has long been a centre of faith. In the 17th century, Raja Jagat Singh putted an idol of Lord Raghunathji, as a mark of his penance on his throne which he brought from Ayodhya. From that period this became the presiding deity of the valley.
Tourist comes here to explore the beauty of the Greater Himalayas, Shinning rivers and mountain scapes. Apart from this there is the "Silver Valley" that is treasure of high meadows and variety of flowers.
Prime Attractions of Kullu
The Great Himalayan National Park : This park is characterized by glaciers, alpine meadows,dazzling high ridges and valleys closed to virgin forests. Kullu district is one of the best destinations for Himalayan flora and fauna lovers. This park Supports a diverse wildlife from past three hundred species of birds and more than thirty species of mammals. Finally this region was declared a national park in 1984.
Bijli Mahadev Temple : This temple is situated at an attitude of 2,438 meters From the temple site you can take a panoramic view of Kullu and Parvati valleys.
Brighu Lake : This lies in Kullu district east of Rohtang pass. The shores of this clear water lake are devoid of human habitation yet, it is visited regularly by the people of the area.
Dhankia Mahadeva Temple : This temple is dediated to Shiva who stands in a cave in the form of a Lingam.
Kullu Dussehra : Here tourist find unusual Dusshera celebrations. Devotees pay homage to Lord Raghunathji while Music, dance and colour fill the "Silver Valley". Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moonon 'Vijay Dashmi' day itself.
Pin Parbati Pass : Here tourist will find a panoramic alpine views, snow- capped ranges and barren mountain ridges that stretch towards Spiti.
